Jalal Abbasi-Shavazi
Jalal, his wife and children were farewelled by ADSRI staff, adjuncts and students at Vivaldi's Restaurant on Thursday 11 September.
Jalal has been part of ADSRI and demography at ANU since 1994 when he came to ANU to begin his PhD in demography, graduating in 1998. He has been a Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Fellow, Adjunct Fellow and most recently a Future Fellow.
He has been appointed Director of the National Population Studies Institute in Iran by the Minister of Science and Technology, seconded from his position as Professor of Demography at the University of Tehran.
Jalal will continue his collaboration with the ANU and his work on refugees. He has been awarded a project on Afghans in Iran and appointed as Adjunct Associate Professor at the Crawford School of Public Policy. He will also return to ADSRI in 2015 as a Visiting Fellow.
We wish him well in his new positions and hope that his friendship and research collaboration with colleagues at ADSRI and ANU will continue.
